As Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) professionals, we like to combine a range of tools to ensure our clients get the most out of their SEO campaigns. We decided to reach out to other industry pros and business owners to find out which tools they love to use in 2019 and why.
A crucial element to every SEO campaign, keyword research provides the foundation and gives direction to your content creation.
“The more adequate keywords you find, the bigger the range your offer can expect to be shown in the search engine. So make sure you prepare [with] proper SEO keyword research!” says Irena Zobniów of Insightland.
Prosper M. Taruvinga of Long Live Digital agrees, and enthusiastically recommends Neil Patel's Ubersuggest tool which is “slowly becoming the go-to tool for anyone at any level of SEO”.
Ubersuggest is free to use, and provides a user-friendly table outlining key statistics including estimated visits and backlinks. These metrics are particularly important if you’re looking to investigate the engagement level and the difficulty of ranking for a particular at a glance, and will simplify the evaluation of your SEO campaign.
Once you have your core keyword list sorted, how do you find actionable keywords for blog posts and other website content?
“While looking for keyword opportunities themselves is difficult, finding actionable keywords (or rather terms including that keyword) is even harder” explains Anthony Bianco of The Travel Tart. The solution? QuestionDB.
QuestionDB will take any keyword and spit out a list of related long tail keywords. For example, we can discover long tail keywords for ‘cat videos’:

The first and second could be great topics for a blog post on certain ‘just for fun’ websites. Traditional keyword tools would generally produce shorter and less engaging keyword suggestions, making this tool fantastic for those wanting to think outside the box.
SEO tools for auditing
There is a whole slew of SEO auditing tools available on the internet. Ahrefs and SEMRush dominate the scene, but there are others that fill more niche roles (and sometimes do it better).
For smaller businesses or agencies, Agency Analytics is a cost-effective alternative to the big players.

Issues, hints and an overview of the tests your website has passed are presented simply, so you can pat yourself on the back for your SEO efforts.
Links are key to SEO success. Look for those on your websites pages as well as sourcing backlinks via broken link building.
Gregory Golinski, Head of SEO at of Your Parking Space, uses Check My Links Google Chrome extension when analysing a web page.
“[Check My Links is] a great extension to quickly scan a web page to find broken links, links with redirects, etc.”
It’s a simple browser plugin, which means you don’t have to put the page through bigger, more powerful crawlers to find quick fixes or opportunities.
Aside from technical SEO auditing, it can also assist with link building exercises, highlighting any broken links so that you can reach out to the webmaster and offer a replacement.
Filip Jedraszczyk, SEO manager at Listonic, finds Screaming Frog “useful [for] getting information about duplicated or missing parameters that do not match Google guidelines”, with Google Search Console and Google Analytics compatibility its best feature according to Jedraszczyk.
After running a scan, results are available in an easy to read panel. Whether you’re after quick feedback about a particular area of interest (like response codes below) or want to deep dive into all technical aspects of a website, Screaming Frog is a powerful tool.
While not an SEO-specific tool, Leadfeeder is a useful software service that allows you to find out who’s visiting your website once your SEO efforts start paying off.
David Pagotto has been using Leedfeeder at his SEO agency SIXGUN, and believes that “for any B2B business, this information is pure gold.”
You can identify visitors driven to your website through your SEO work, see what content they look at and even feed this directly into your CRM – which makes Leadfeeder a goldmine for warmer leads and audience building across a multitude of Digital Marketing activities.
Driving traffic to your website is the objective of SEO, but for those who wear hats from other departments from time to time, uncovering just who your visitors are can boost the ROI of your SEO efforts by allowing you to follow up on previously unknown leads.
